Mama D's Snow Cream

It's snowing outside!  Let's make Snow Cream.  It's just like ice cream but better because it's Snow Cream!  By the way it never ever snows in Texas, right?  Well there is snow out there and a lot of it.  We are expected to get four to six inches more by the end of the day.  I was talking with a friend this morning and she said her mama always made Snow Cream when it snowed in her town.  So we conference called Mama D this morning and got her recipe.  She did not give me actual amounts so she said you have to use your own taste buds to see how sweet or how much vanilla to put into the cream.  So I did measure my ingredients and will post on the recipe.  It is basic so add what you like!
Thanks Mama D for sharing with me!

See it is snowing, I told ya it was snowing but I bet you didn't believe me.

Yes there is snow out there!

Find a clean source to get your snow, don't dig to far down.  Get the clean stuff!

Keep piling it in!  It's so much fun playing in the snow!!

Me in my silly hat getting the snow for ya'll.

The Players!

Add 1 teaspoon vanilla to the snow.

Add 1/2 cup sugar on top.

Start adding evaporated milk and mixing on low with a hand mixer.

Keep adding and mixing,

More mixing until slushy.

It should look like this.

Put into a smaller container, cover and put into the freezer for at least 1 hour, if you can wait that long!

Happy Eating!

The recipe:

Mama D’s Snow Cream

Large bowl of clean snow  (my bowl is 16 cup capacity)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 can evaporated milk (12 ounces)
¾ cup sugar

Pour vanilla and sugar over snow.  Start adding the milk,  mixing on low until all is incorporated and slushy.  Cover and put into the freezer for at least one hour before eating or until firm.  Can be kept in freezer for days, if it last that long!

We use cream when we make our snow ice cream. Soooo good. I have enjoyed reading your blog. I might even cook something sometime. That might require me to go to the store though.

Mary - I made it and it was yummy! It took about 2secs to get the snow and five to mix it and put in the freezer. We also made it for Michelle's kids and they loved it!

I've never considered making anything out of snow other than snowmen! I'll have to try this with the kids this weekend! Too cool! Thanks, Mary!!
